Akhtamar Quartet
The Akhtamar Quartet released their first CD in 2020: Légende armenienne. Armenian legends are in fact the source of their energy. The quartet has appeared at many prestigious concert halls in Europe, but has made a point of performing in schools, hospitals, psychiatric centres and people’s living rooms as well. This will be their first concert in Mechelen. The programme features work that Judith Adler de Oliveira has composed especially for the Akhtamar Quartet, as well as their signature pieces: Miniatures by the legendary Armenian composer Komitas. Zinderende Stilte would be unthinkable without Leoš Janáček’s First String Quartet as well. It is based on Leo Tolstoy’s book The Kreutzer Sonata. This blazing work is nothing short of an opera without words.
